Spelling or the lack of

If you can't spell, how do you find the word you need? This is a problem I have had my entire life. I was blessed with a mother who was an excellent speller, so until her passing I just asked her.

Now with the advent of the computer I can rely most of the time on the spell checker, and I use a wonderful program called Tiny Spell for everywhere I type that doesn't include one. Actually I use Tiny Spell even when a program has a spell checker as it's learned how I spell something and normally offers me the correct word faster, and more accurately then any other one.

When Tiny Spell fails me, Google will typically come to the rescue; I just type in a short sentence using the word I can't spell, and it will offer me a corrected option. I do typically define: the word to make sure there aren't tons of us out there miss spelling the word.

However, once in a while I have a word I just can't figure out how to even start spelling, or possibly I'm miss pronouncing it, so I'm so far from how the word is spelt, that nothing can help. Today I had one of those words. I was posting over at Tarot for Life and wanted to say something posed a condry ... nope that isn't correct, conderary, nope not that either, none of the suggestions helped, and neither did my sentence in Google of "that poses quite a conderary". Well after I even pulled out the old fashion paper dictionary and read through con words, I was sure wishing for my mother, when I thought about how I was pronouncing the word and realized it was really should be pronounced quan, not con, maybe I was mixing up the pronunciation with contrary, who knows, I was just glad the quan came to me, and I then knew the word was quandry oops or quandary, thank the Goddess for Tiny Spell!
